Elena Bogacheva of the
Moskow's hunting club GLENKAR has imported another IRWS now. After earlier
imports from Belgium (Exclusive's Glitter- bitch) and Germany (History of
highland's Boy - dog), they now have Lohmann's Assol (Rushfield Sage x Deargban
O'Faolain).
Elena Bogacheva has been visiting the very first CACIT trial and spoke at length
with the judges. She is working hard to bring her setters (Boy and later Assol)
into the Russian National team.

Update on Irish Red and White Setters in Russia
Hello
Mr. Terry O'leary,
My name is Lena, I'm from Russia. Myself and my husband Ivan own two Irish
Redand White Setters, one is Lohmann's Assol and the other one is History`s
ofHighland Boy. We also own two Irish Red Setters, dog Lucky and bitch
Elvina. Ourhobby is hunting with Red Setters (we haven't yet hunted with
our IRWSs as they are too young), also recently I got interested in field
trials. We are members of Russian Setter Club 'Glenkar'. The head of our club
Lena Fedulova also owns an Irish Red and White Setter, her name is Exclusives
Glitter. The 3 Irish Red and White Setters of our club seem to be the only
representatives of the breed in Russia but I hope that other people will also
fall in love with the breed as we did, and Irish Red and White setters become as
popular among Russian hunters and dog lovers as Red Setters.
Glitter was the first one to come to Russia. She was brought from Belgium by
Lena Fedulova's friends. A couple of weeks later my husband and I went to
Germany and brought our Boy to Russia. But it was not that easy with Assol... We
all (Christiane, my husband, me) were very worried as everything seemed to go
against us. First, this time we couldn't come to Germany ourselves to pick Assol
up as our passports expired, we applied for the new ones but that took too long.
So we agreed with a friend who works on the train Cologne-Moscow that he would
bring the puppy with him. Assol's travel documents were ready but due to a
crisis our friend's schedule changed and his trip was postponed indefinitely.
I was in a state of shock when I learnt that, I didn't know what to do... But
still I wasn't going to give up Assol. So I decided to write to Christiane,
explaining the situation and asked her to keep Assol until our documents were
ready and we could come to Germany in March only as iwe also would have to
wait until Assol's rabies inoculation quarantine is over. Here I must add
one thing - I speak very little English. I can write short letters but when I
need to send some important letters I usually ask my friend Evgenia to
help me with translation. So that time I also asked Evgenia for translation and
imagine my surprise and my joy when she replied that she was going to be in
Dusseldorff on business at the end of January and she could collect the puppy
with her on her way back... Hurray!
So
despite all the difficulties little Assol finally arrived. She's a right little
devil but we love her! And I must say thank you to Christiane for her patience
and understanding with the situation. At the moment we are in Moscow. Assol was
vaccinated against rabies and she stays in until her quarantine is over. I can't
wait until we can go to our country house in a couple of days while she's at
home she's slowly destroying the flat and Boy helps her
When we first got interested in IRWS, we could find very little information
about the breed. The IRWS is practically unknown here in Russia, moreover the
breed was considered near to extinction. But when we started to search for
information on foreign websites we realised that the breed survived despite
everything and thanks to the enthusiastic work of the IRWS lovers. We were
getting more and more interested in the breed and when we learnt that one of our
Lucky's ancestors was an IRWS we decided that this was probably fate. So
we took our Boy. We absolutelty fell in love with the breed, Boy never
disappointed us in anything and in about a year's time we decided to take a
bitch of IRWS and thus our Assol appreared.
Boy's finishing his training this year and we plan to start hunting with him in
the autumn. I also hope that he'll get good results at the Russian field trials.
He's easily trained, he works with passion, I like his way of
working with scents, of searching and finding the bird. But he's too passionate
as he tries to catch the bird and what we'll be doing this year is to train him
to stop when necessary. When I look at Assol I have no doubt
that she'll make a great hunter. And I can't stop admiring them, they are very
beautiful dogs.
I must say our Red and White Setters helped us to meet a lot of new interesting
people and make a lot of new friends outside of Russia, starting from the
breeders of our dogs with whom we keep in touch. We are very happy to become
acquainted with you and I hope we'll stay in touch and make friends. I will be
telling you how Red and White setters are doing here in Russia. As the breed is
pretty new to us I hope you can help us with your advice.
I would also like to tell you a bit about our club and I hope our clubs will
cooperate. As I wrote earlier our club's called 'Glenkar' (Glencar), and the
name shows that members of our club mainly own Irish Red Setters. The club deals
with their breeding and field training. In the last couple of years owners of
English Setters, Gordon Setters and continental pointing dogs also joined the
club. We also have Red and White Setters. The club owns training
grounds where training usually takes place. As we received official documents we
can now do field trials and shows, at club level at the moment. This year
I was elected Club Secretary so please feel free to ask me any uestions
regarding activities of our club.
With very best regards and hope to hear from you soon,
Lena
